Shiba Wichern Cuvee 2022

Grape: Pinot Noir

Region: Willamette Valley, OR

Farming: Sustainable

Akiko Shiba is our winemaker and co-owner. Akiko received her engineering degree in Enology and Viticulture from the University of Geisenheim in 2009. Akiko's practical experience is split between the vineyard and cellar as well as between Germany and Oregon. Amongst the wineries where Akiko has gained her practical experience are in Oregon: Evesham Wood, St. Innocent, Ayres and Domaine Serene. In Germany: Franz Keller, Schamari-Muehle, Heyl zu Herrnsheim, Chat Sauvage and Rudolph Fuerst. Before her career change to the wine industry Akiko graduated from the prestigious Keio University and worked in Tokyo as an editor and journalist in the food and drink sector. Chris Wichern is Akiko’s husband, the other co-owner and “infrastructure & administration.” Chris has been at Akiko's side throughout her career and played an important part in founding of Shiba Wichern Cellars. The Willamette Cuvée is our Pinot blend of all vineyard sites. In 2021 it was 3 sites: Havlin in the Van Duzer corridor, Nuestro Sueno in the Eola Amity Hills and Bellevue Cross. Every year we set the same goal for this wine, balance. Luckily for us every year the wine comes out different and expresses each vintage individually.
