Horus Nero d’Avola 2020

Updated: Feb 20

Grape: Nero d’Avola

Region: Sicily, Italy

Farming: Organic

Horus winery is the synthesis of an entrepreneurial experience that begun in 1974 by the Giudice family. Cantina Horus is a young and dynamic reality that has chosen to enhance the indigenous and oldest varieties of the area using an organic cultivation method. They plan the winemaking right from the vineyard, eliminating the use of chemical substances and systemic pesticides which tend to stimulate the quantitative production of the plant to the detriment of the qualitative one and to impoverish the precious soil - plant - climate relationship which constitutes the necessary balance for the development of a strong vine, which produces healthy, balanced, rich grapes and which make the wines identifiable and unique. Vinification is brief maceration in tank, settling and aging in a mix of concrete and steel, then bottling with minimal sulfites. Everything is done to emphasize aromatics and freshness. The right balance between temperature, altitude and distance from the sea contribute to the uniqueness of this environmental context which has encouraged us to enhance the qualities of the native and traditional variety like Nero D'Avola.

Food Pairing: Would go very well with pasta served with meatballs, arancini and even swordfish with capers.
